Bessemer steel blows air through molten iron to remove impurities as in coal/iron ore-rich Pittsburgh (1.8 ton CO2/ton steel, 8% global emissions). Direct-reduced iron uses electrolyzer green hydrogen heat to convert iron ore to iron, made into steel in an electric-arc furnace 2x cost without cheap electricity (and pipelines), stalling a 20-megaton GH2 EU goal.
