Geothermal could replace almost half of the EU’s fossil fuel power

A new Ember report states that geothermal could replace 42% of the EU’s electricity generation from coal and natural gas for the same cost. Formerly limited to shallow geologically active hot spots, next-generation advanced geothermal methods tap further into the earth at over 5 km, aided by oil and gas techniques, to heat homes and water directly.
