Plug-in hybrids use three times more fuel than manufacturers claim, analysis finds

The Fraunhofer Institute reports that PHEVs use more fuel than claimed. Wirelessly collected data from almost 1 million on-road PHEVs showed real fuel consumption: 6 litres rather than 1 to 2 per 100 km as the gas engine is used even during electric mode. Porsche’s high-end model was worst (7 l). Kia, Toyota, Ford and Renault used only 1 l.
