Transparent solar panels edge closer to turning windows into power sources

Europe’s CITYSOLAR used organic solar cells with perovskites to reach a record efficiency of 12.3%, over half the average 21% of non-transparent silicon-based panels. A multilayer Bragg reflector selects specific wavelengths to increase efficiency. Prototypes will start to see if “solar windows” can lower the building sector’s 40% of CO2 emissions.
