Japanese company TOYO is planning a $375-million, 1.5-GW solar-cell manufacturing plant in Texas, already a “solar manufacturing hotspot,” featuring next-gen heterojunction solar cells (HJT, 3-layer tandem). Thanks to increased battery storage systems, utility-scale solar has outgrown fossil fuels the past 5 years to reach a total of 58 GW.
