Report: Old power grids may slow Europe's clean energy boom

"Grid congestion” can occur as solar panels, wind turbines, and batteries costs drop without added transmission lines, stranding over 120 GW (60 Hoover Dams) of projects. In 2025 the EU generated more electricity from PV and WTs than coal and natural gas plants, on track for “net zero” by 2050, needed for new power, data centres, heat pumps, and EVs.
