A California school district is more than doubling its 16 electric buses in a 130-bus fleet, citing cleaner air, better performance, and lower operating costs. Fuel costs ($0.19/mile) are down about 80% compared to diesel ($0.82/mile), though the EV buses cost $120,000 more. In 2017, more than 500 EV buses were running across the US.
