Tides, currents, and waves are a major renewable energy resource. At the MeyGen tidal energy site in Scotland, operated by SAE Renewables, 4 turbines submerged 40 m produce 1.5 MW each (7,000 homes/year and have run for 6 1/2 years without costly maintenance. Scotland leads the world in tidal energy with plans to add 20 turbines in 2030.
