Ireland’s datacentres overtake electricity use of all urban homes combined

Energy-hungry AI data centres used 21% of Irish grid power last year, more than urban (18%) and rural (10%) homes, aided by lax corporate tax laws and low renewables uptake. Harming climate and green targets, fossil fuels generated over half of Irish electricity, 45% from gas plants as well as coal, peat, and oil. Wind power was 34.6% and solar 1.2%.
