Elon Musk announced a mass-produced Li-ion battery with 50% more energy density by 2024, aiding electric flight. Tesla's Model 3’s Panasonic 2170 batteries are about 250 to 260 Wh/kg, suggesting 400 Wh/kg is doable soon. Aviation GHGs are significant (5%), while U.S. transportation emissions from domestic flights alone have increased by 17% since 1990.
