In 2008, California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia agreed to promote biofuel, hybrid, battery, and fuel-cell vehicles. The West Coast Electric Highway, an alternative fuel corridor along I-5 and Highway 99, opened in 2011 with its first charging station. ZEVs can now travel from Baja to BC using thousands of chargers spaced about every 40 miles.
