About one-third of global train travel is electric, run by overhead catenary lines and conductive third rails. Following Germany's hydrogen-powered train test in 2018, a 4-car HydroFlex train was demonstrated in England. The UK wants to green its almost 4,000 soot-spewing diesel-electric train fleet by 2040, increasing its clean transport mix.
