Germany installed its first electrified "eHighway" near Frankfurt on a 6-mile-long test road called ELISA (electrified innovative heavy traffic on the Autobahn). The hybrid electric trucks connect and disconnect on the fly to recharge batteries via overhead 670-V DC cables, saving 35 cents/mile on fuel. Two more test roads are being built.
